Sibiu in Summer
A tough tour through a beautiful landscape
The Sibiu Tour was always going to be a big challenge - racing with a top class field.
For DS Ramūnas Navardauskas each stage brought us opportunities to try to meet these challenges as best we could.
Felix tested his legs on the sprint of the first stage and he managed a solid 17th place, finishing on a narrow road with parked cars. Marc was too mighty for his bike and broke his chain at a crucial moment.
The second stage was flat with a mountain top finish, so it looked to suit Jo and Yusuke best but Toby was fired up too. Marc, Felix and Kazutoshi played supporting roles but try as we might our legs were not up to it. Best on the day was Toby who could hold his head high in the strong field finishing 12 minutes down.
A relentless Queen Stage followed, and Jo crashed on a descent. He was lucky to escape injury but lost a lot of ground. Everyone worked hard – Yusuke did well to make it into the breakaway. Toby also took the bull by the horns and finished the climb only 4 minutes down.
For the first part of the final day Yusuke once again went with the breakaway. The gap was out to 2,30 before a climb enabled the peloton to catch up. Felix was our best finisher in 12th place but all the guys fought hard and shared the workload.
All in all it was not a bad week and we can take a lot away with us from the experience.
The team work and the spirit to fight on and help each other was our greatest achievement.
